Does education really pay?

Young people are often faced with different challenges. One of which is questioning the value of education. They sometimes ask themselves if they are on the right educational or career path to financial freedom. Due to societal pressure, they are often confused about their choices. Especially, their decision to enroll into an institution of learning inorder to acquire formal education.

Education is the process or art of imparting knowledge, skill, idea, value and judgement. It can be formal, informal or semi-formal. By formal education, I mean that standardized system of teaching and learning that take place in schools. By Informal education, I mean those forms of learning and skill acquisition that take place at home or playground. By semi-formal education, I mean those other forms of instruction that take place outside the school setting like tutorials.

Education is valuable. Some may ask, how? Let me lead you. A person who is not educated and literate cannot read and write. Such a person depends on others who are educated and literate to deal with written messages and documents. This is very dangerous, Yes! I will explain this some other time. Now, I am on the value of education.

Education is valuable because you gain knowledge of things. It gives you value. It provides you with information and experience through training. In the process of education, you are meant to acquire certain skills which you can use to sustain yourself as an individual while contributing to the development of the society. This begs the question, why are some educated people frustrated? That is a topic for another time. Some would ask, does it really pay to be educated? Yes!

Education really does pay. The world needs the services of professionals. And professionals are educated people. You may ask, if education really pays why then are there so many educated people who are jobless? Simple, they are jobless because they have not started adding value to themselves and the society.

As a human, you have certain needs so do other people around you. So as an educated person, you are already equipped with the basic knowledge on how to meet people's needs. Simply use your knowledge and skills to add value to other people and get rewarded for your services. That's how you earn.

Getting paid for professional services rendered is a way educated people make money. Another way is producing products that are of value to people. Another way is connecting producers with buyers. Education coupled with your common sense will definitely pay and be of great value to you.

What do you think?

The Lion and the Jewel by Wole Soyinka: The use of dramatic techniques

Woke Soyinka employed different dramatic techniques in his play, "The Lion and the Jewel" to create this beautiful piece we have. He pretends to drive the car.The girls shudder, and drop their faces on their laps. He pretends to try to restart the car. He gets out and checks the wheels of the car, and pinches them. He tries to start the car, fails and takes his things for a trek. He hears a girl giggling, but not understanding the sound, he throws the bottle that he was drinking from in that direction. This makes Sidi scream and respond with a torrent of abuse. Startled, the stranger takes a closer look and sees Sidi...
