Do you know that research findings have discovered that poverty causes high blood pressure world wide? Well, a new study published in The Lancet asserted that the number of people affected by high blood pressure are more in low and middle income countries. The study revealed a glaring difference between areas where people were mostly affected. The population of high income countries showed a sharp decline in high blood pressure in recent decades whereas the population of low income and middle income countries showed remarkable increase in recent decades. Continents like South Asia and Africa are more at risk. A professor of global environmental health at Imperial College London, Majit Ezzati said, "when you look at this globally, blood pressure is a condition of poverty, not affluence". It is sad to note that Nigerians have been consuming poisonous substances which our health regulatory body, National Agency For Food and Drug Administration  NAFDAC approved to be safe for human consumption. He exported soft drinks to the United Kingdom and the health authorities there discovered that the Fanta and Sprite contained excess yellow and benzoic acid known to be carcinogenic ( a substance or radiation that leads to cancer). And drinking Fanta or Sprite becomes poisonous when consumed with ascorbic acid (vitamin c). So his goods were confiscated and destroyed. Mr Emmanuel following the destruction of his goods filed a case against NBC PLC and NAFDAC. After a prolonged legal battle in court where the Nigerian Bottling Company argued that their drinks were mearnt for local consumption and so should not be blamed for damages arising from exporting their products. A young armed robbery suspect 25, has told operatives of the Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos State Police Command how his gang robbed about 35 Automated Teller Machine users early mornings in Alaba Rago area of Lagos,  the police said. Gbenga Babatunde, who was arrested after a failed bid to rob a lady who withdrew an unspecified amount of money around 5:48 a.m. at an ATM point in Alaba Rago Market, was chased by the operatives patrolling the area, and they recovered a ‘cut-to-size’ locally made short gun with two live cartridges from him, the police said. The police said the suspect had an accomplice caled Samson Baba Ramadan, 28, who managed to escape after the botched operation. “We have robbed about 35 people together. We would have gotten to the ATM point by 4:00 a.m. We would hide inside the shop that is not open beside the ATM point.” The suspect said as soon as a potential victim withdraws money, they would accost him or her, collect the money and escape....
